Personalizing a Spec Home

Entryway

June 14, 2018

Welcome to the second installment of my blog series on personalizing a spec home. This time I'm sharing our entryway (or lack there of lol). To me a beautiful entryway can set the tone for the entire home, so when I first walked into our house I was a little disappointed that it opened right into the formal living room. I wanted to create a landing area that would separate the two spaces, and give us a place to unload bags, keys, and mail.

Obviously I don't have a lot of space so I didn't want to clutter it up with anything too big or bulky. I started by measuring the area next to the door. Since this door never gets opened I didn't have to worry about it slamming into anything I placed there. Once I had the measurements, my hunt began for the perfect small accent table.

I have several go to sites I always hit up when shopping online. (That could probably be its own blog post lol!) In this case I wanted something black and slim, so as not to take up too much visual space. I found exactly what I was looking for at Pottery Barn. When shopping online try this: Go to sites like Retail Me Not to download coupon codes, or if you're patient (I'm usually not!) leave things in your shopping cart for a couple of days. Oftentimes companies will send you a reminder that you have items in your cart along with coupons or free shipping codes as an incentive to get you to check out. Since this little table was already on sale I snapped it up right away!

Next, I began searching for some kind of hooks or holders to hang on the wall. I came across these wooden dots from CB2, and fell madly in love. Not only are they practical, but they look great even when nothing's on them! A tray to keep things organized, a faux plant for some color, and voila, my little entry is done!
